From Recovered Seaside Plastic to sustainable products
Change will only be possible if we collaborate with others and nurture innovation and entrepreneurship. We are committed to taking the lead, working together with everyone – from Collectors and Recyclers all the way to Brand Owners and Consumers – to create a circular, sustainable future by extending a plastic product's lifecycle and closing the plastic cycle.
Closing the plastic cycle...
It all starts with Brand Owners who need to take recyclability into account, make smarter material choices and switch to more sustainable resources.
After that, Consumers need to take waste reduction and separation seriously.
The cycle continues in the waste management and recycling industry, which needs to ensure that plastic waste is effectively collected before in enters the sea and processed to high-quality secondary raw materials that can be reused.
Ultimately, the whole thing ends and begins once again with Brand Owners and Manufacturers, who will reuse #RecoveredSeasidePlastic in their new products or packaging.
Our #RecoveredSeasidePlastic blockchain platform and certification modelinvolves a multi-step monitoring process whereby the source material can be followed through a secure digital pathway powered by Oracle Blockchain Technology, ensuring end-to-end recycled product transparency and traceability.
Plastic waste collected from at-risk Mediterranean coastal areas, can now be logged, tracked and monitored at every stage of the 'connected journey' – from plastic waste collection to finished product helping brands, manufacturers and their suppliers build a sustainable and circular future.
#RecoveredSeasidePlastic certification is a choice for a more circular and sustainable future.
Powered by Oracle Blockchain Technology, it is designed to encourage effective plastic waste collection, sustainable reuse and prevent Mediterranean Sea pollution.
With this ambitious certification model we aim to:
Certify the recycled raw material and attach digital proof of origin – ensuring all plastic collected and processed is coming from at-risk Mediterranean coastal areas.
Certify the supply chain stakeholders through advanced auditing and monitoring techniques, creating a trusted network of partners.
Provide high levels of transparency, verification and traceability of #RecoveredSeasidePlastic throughout the supply chain.
Ensure credibility of the #RecoveredSeasidePlastic badge and provide an engaging sustainability story that brands can use.
The certification model is open to all parties interested in registering and participating. Interested parties must satisfy several criteria before they can be considered a certified supplier of #RecoveredSeasidePlastic recycled raw material.
Single-use plastic products and plastic packaging make up the majority of plastic waste found in the Mediterranean Sea and coastlines. They have a very short ‘in-use’ lifetime (typically around 6 months or less) and are the dominant component of plastic waste.
Plastic bottles, film, food containers are all materials that have some value to recyclers and in most cases it makes economic sense to collect and recycle them. However, there are cases where the value of the plastic waste is lower than the cost of collection which leads to plastic ending up in landfills and polluting the seas. In these cases, we step in and provide solutions.
We work with local partners to design and implement effective collection strategies especially in regions where there is weak or no organised collection infrastructure and waste management practices.
